Rotterdam, June 2025 – SkyLab IoT B.V., a leading provider and developer of cutting-edge Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, proudly introduces SkySeal: a revolutionary, compact, wireless electronic door seal that delivers real-time visibility into the opening and closing of trailer and container doors – including location, timestamp, and additional metadata.
Innovation through Collaboration
The development of SkySeal originated from the Chamber of Commerce Innovation Challenge – a joint initiative with Transport and Logistics Netherlands (TLN) and Dutch Customs. This challenge called on the industry to develop smart technologies for improved cargo security, tamper detection, and accurate registration of authorized and unauthorized access to transport assets.

SkyLab’s solution was named most promising due to its scalability, effectiveness, and high added value for carriers, clients, and authorities.

“SkySeal is more than just a smart seal,” says Remy de Jong, CTO at SkyLab. “It’s an AI-powered (patent pending) IoT solution that combines real-time security, location intelligence, and long battery life in a compact, scalable design. It addresses the global demand for reliable control over supply chains and physical access security.”

With over 35 years of experience in ICT and specialized security for the transport and logistics sector, SkyLab developed this innovation based on hands-on industry knowledge and real-world needs.
Technology & Benefits
SkySeal integrates the latest technologies in IoT, telecommunications, artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain. It allows vulnerable links in the supply chain to be monitored at scale, providing real-time insight into:
Authorized and unauthorized door movements
Seal status
Location data
These insights are critical to enhancing security, transparency, compliance, and process integrity within complex logistics chains.
SkyNet IoT Network
Unlike traditional solutions with costly subscriptions, limited infrastructure, short battery life, and poor radio performance, SkySeal operates over LoRaWAN® – an energy-efficient protocol enabling long-range communication across diverse environments.
Thanks to this technology, sensors can operate for 10 years or more on a single battery, delivering low operational costs and maximum reliability – even under extreme conditions, at sea, or in remote areas.
SkySeal connects via the SkyNet IoT network, the world’s largest neutral and independent LoRaWAN hosting provider. It supports simultaneous connectivity across multiple public, private, commercial, and DePIN networks – based on availability and preference – like:
The Things Network
The Things Industries
Helium
Crankk.io
Netmore
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
SkyNet IoT (Hosting & Roaming)

The SkyNet IoT network enables roaming across the interconnected networks. With over one million connected gateways globally, it provides unmatched international coverage for SkySeal and other LoRa-based IoT applications – without dependency on a single provider.
Hybrid Location Intelligence
SkySeal features a robust multi-layered hybrid positioning system. Even in the absence of GPS, location can be determined via:
LoRa triangulation
WiFi positioning
Beacon technology
This enables reliable indoor and 3D tracking and recovery – essential for use in ports, warehouses, or at sea.

Future-Proof & Compliant
With SkySeal, SkyLab IoT offers a future-ready solution for organizations seeking precise monitoring of their logistics processes, enhanced cargo protection, and compliance with tightening customs and security regulations.
SkySeal further contributes to:
Risk mitigation
Insurance premium reductions
Improved regulatory compliance

Availability
SkySeal is currently available in limited quantities. For large-scale deployment, SkyLab seeks collaboration with partners who value smart and affordable cargo security. Scaling production will allow pricing comparable to that of traditional mechanical locks – but with the added power of real-time data, AI, and IoT.
